Hello Friends,
I've written a bunch here about my work life. In other words, you have listened to me complain. A lot.
Well, not anymore!
Now that I've gotten that out of my system, it's time to make the move to a better place. The goal is to leave the 9-5 corporate world behind, to find life balance, to reduce financial risk through diversification (multiple, residual revenue streams) and continued education, self-assessment, and personal development.
First thing, a little motivation. I find the last line of one of my favorite poems to be a jolt of simple energy and clarity:
"You must change your life."
But how does one do this?
My tortured relationship with a capital "J" job is not new. I have spent most of my adult life looking for alternative professions—writer, independent publisher, Reiki master, technical writer, hypnotherapist, freelance computer programmer, educational sales, professional speaker, real estate agent.
I have worked way too hard trying not to work (find something you love and you never work a day in your life).
A side effect of these efforts is that I have done a ton of research and taken a boatload of courses (yep, I admit it. I'm one of those people) along the subjects of healing, transformation, business and self-employment, and gaining control of your life.
And truthfully, with all of this, I have created an exceptional life, a life that is blessed.
I have even left and found new and better jobs, including my current position, as it was a few years ago when I first started at it. But trends evolve, economic factors shift, and markets experience unforeseen influences. And what was once better doesn't always remain supportive and energizing.
In the olden days, a job at a good company meant security. Since the mid-1990s, with the rise of technology start-ups and the emergence of technology super-companies, that stopped being true. Corporations hire and fire with abandon, based on rows and columns on spreadsheets. There is no occupational security (especially at a Coldplay concert?). The notion that most companies deserve your loyalty is sadly an illusion.
So, I want change, and I want out.
And, a lifetime of building towards my intentions gives me the confidence that I can do it again.
This time, I crave a wholesale change. I don't want just another new job. I desire a new mode of earning an adequate income.
To do this, I am going back through all the techniques and philosophies I've learned to transform and create the life I want. And I've decided to give others the opportunity to come along for the ride.
The goal of this project is to document my journey towards a life that seeks a soulful existence. I'm going to discuss the various modalities that are out there to assist people in changing their lives as I work through them. These include (but are not limited to):
Hypnosis / self-hypnosis
Mindfulness / meditation
Brute force (I'm outta here)
To do this, I am going to take advantage of every resource available to me (yes, this means AI).
Change is never passive. It's hard. You can wish for change, but it won't just happen unless you take the steps.
Genuine change requires action—doing things differently than you did before. And for me, that means sharing my experiences and recognizing actual value in my efforts.
I will document and share my journey through all of this as a second newsletter that will have a subscription (this current newsletter will always be free).
Along with creating a new email, I will generate supporting material such as apps, templates, and workbooks that I will use (and share) to assist in this process. There might even be Zoom calls, podcasts, and guest speakers—who knows what the future holds. I aim to create a roadmap and provide resources and inspiration for anyone who wants to generate meaningful changes in their lives.
More information is coming.
I will let you know when the sign-up link is available. Until then, you can enjoy cats and origami in space and a trip to the moon.
Happy reading, happy writing, and happy growing,
David
